The Engineering that goes into every ordeR

All orders are reviewed by an engineer to ensure that the system we are providing is designed to exceed your specific requirements. Each component is selected using the refrigeration manufacturer’s software and then a system analysis is completed to maximize efficiency. This includes everything from upsizing the evaporator to not having to de-rate the system for glycol usage; to selecting the proper expansion valve to maximize efficiency.  With a seemingly unlimited selection of specified components to meet your application requirements, we have all the tools to create a custom engineered solution for your specific cooling needs.

Industrial process chillers are not one-size-fits-all and this is why you need an engineered solution designed around the specific needs of your operation. Our engineers can build your system to handle custom requirements such as:

  • Varying heat loads

  • Narrow temperature requirements

  • Corrosive fluid

  • Near freezing water applications

  • Low leaving fluid temperatures (<-35°F)

  • High return fluid temperatures (> 80°F)

  • Low (-40°F) and High (130°F) ambient conditions

  • Corrosive Environments

  • And much more…

Custom Controls

Our engineers’ custom program the microprocessors that make it easier for you to manage your process. Using
MCS microprocessors (Micro Control Systems) allows for tighter process control because you can monitor and adjust settings with the click of a mouse. Users will have remote access from anywhere and email or text alerts can be sent in the case of an alarm.

Physical Space Constraints

Many times, your equipment has to squeeze into a tight location or drop in for an existing replacement or may require a complete custom layout. This is not a problem as all the metal is drawn, designed, lasered, bent, and then assembled here at our facility in Pennsylvania.

Energy Efficiency Options

The operating cost of a chiller is just as important as the initial expense. Drake has economical solutions that reduce energy output and minimize operation costs. Some of the options that are available to improve your energy efficiency include:

  • EC condenser fan motors

  • Electronic expansion valves (EEVs)

  • Multiple refrigerant circuits

  • Glycol economizer for free-cooling capability

  • Floating head pressure for efficient cooling in temperatures under 95°F

  • Heat reclaim options for hot water loop or hot liquor tank (HLT)

  • Pump variable frequency drive (VFD)

Scalability

Whether you need a chiller for one piece of equipment – or 100 – our engineered solutions can accommodate your future growth. From startup microbreweries to thriving dairy farms, our chillers are designed to meet your need wherever you are now and continue to grow with you.

Redundancy

Our chillers offer a variety of redundancy options to ensure your product is always chilled when you need it. Some processes are not able to afford down time so rely on a Drake chiller with an uptime of 99.4%.

  • Full capacity redundancy

  • Dual or multi refrigeration circuits

  • Full electrical isolation

  • Dual control systems

  • Auto changeover pumps

Capacity Control

Many processes have intermittent heavy to low load operations. As such, a chiller must be designed to meet the changing demands of your application. Digital scrolls, cylinder unloading, and electronic hot gas bypass are just some of the capacity control options that allow our units to operate from 17-100% of available cooling.
